In prehistoric North America, a boastful young Inuit hunter named Kenai is transformed into a bear as a punishment from the Great Spirit for his selfishness and killing of a sacred bear. To regain his human form, Kenai must embark on a journey to a mountain where the Great Spirit supposedly performs miracles. Along the way, he forms an unlikely friendship with Koda, a chatty and good-natured bear cub, and together they learn valuable lessons about compassion, brotherhood, and respecting nature.
Brother Bear received a generally mixed reception from critics, with many praising its animation and musical numbers but some criticizing its predictable storyline and perceived lack of originality compared to other Disney animated features. Audiences, however, tended to be more positive, particularly enjoying the heartwarming story and the bond between Kenai and Koda.
